The Virginia Society's annual recognition of outstanding design, built and unbuilt, is juried by a team of esteemed practitioners from beyond the Commonwealth. No specific number of awards is set, and the program is open to all categories of building as well as interiors projects. Awards certificates are presented at the Virginia Society's annual conference each November, Architecture Exchange East.
Eligibility: Built and Unbuilt Work
All entries must be the work of licensed architects who practice in Virginia or are members of the Virginia Society of the American Institute of Architects (including Associates). If participants are not VSAIA members, they must have a physical office within the Commonwealth to be eligible. The location of projects is not restricted, but any built works submitted for consideration must have been completed after January 1, 2002. Unbuilt works also will be considered for recognition. Unbuilt projects must be work commissioned by a client, as opposed to theoretical or hypothetical works completed in the mode of research or academic training.
New Category: Preservation
This year, projects may be submitted in a separate Historic Preservation category to be judged using criteria specifically pertaining to excellence in preservation strategies and technology. Submissions should be clearly marked on the opening project information page as Historic Preservation projects.
